Senior UX Strategist · The Tech Translator

Turning enterprise complexity into measurable outcomes.

My design decisions generated six figures of incremental revenue, shipped a new $0.15/transaction revenue stream, and influenced a company-wide product strategy pivot — all within a legacy enterprise environment serving tens of thousands of nonprofits.

Enterprise UX Strategy · Cross-functional Product Leadership · Stakeholder Alignment

I’ve found my niche in tackling the messy stuff — the ambiguous, cross-functional challenges that require more than just a standard UX process to solve.

Case Study 01 · Conversion Rate Optimization

From Random Guesses to Revenue Drivers

A zero-baseline A/B testing practice generated six figures in incremental revenue within three months — while simultaneously raising donor awareness of a voluntary contribution by 49% and increasing donation completion rates. The work required navigating a payments team with no testing culture, rigid release schedules, and a mandate to deliver outsized impact from a narrow lane of the product.

Connecting Siloed Giants: A Hackathon Idea That Became Corporate Strategy

The CPO elevated “Connected Systems” to a year-long company-wide strategic priority — the direct result of a 48-hour hackathon concept I pitched and a BBCON 2023 conference presentation I earned. The idea reframed a painful manual reconciliation problem into a platform-level integration architecture connecting CRM, payments, and accounting across six organizational stakeholder groups.

Case Study 02 · Information Architecture

Shipping the Modernization Nobody Believed Was Possible

A navigation modernization stalled for years by internal politics shipped on schedule — and simultaneously launched a brand-new $0.15/transaction revenue stream via Tap to Pay on iPhone. I drove it by aggregating historical IA research to build a powerful base of evidence, converting a vocal skeptic into a visible advocate, and aligning six departments across Product, Engineering, Sales, Support, Marketing, and Executive leadership.

Moving from political gridlock to evidence-based progress on navigation modernization for Raiser's Edge NXT

Reducing risk and building trust with research. Note: Screens blurred to maintain NDA compliance.

What changed internally

A/B testing culture shifted from gut instinct to research-backed hypotheses. Two new KPIs — Revenue per Visitor and Donor Sentiment — permanently redefined how the business evaluates tests. "Connected Systems" became a CPO-level strategic priority with dedicated engineering resources.

What changed for the product roadmap

Navigation modernization established an IA template now applied across Financial Edge NXT and future platform initiatives. The Transaction ID is now the connective key across Blackbaud’s entire suite — enabling every future cross-product feature built on payment data.

About James

Bridging the gap between technical complexity and human outcomes.

I lead cross-functional alignment across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Executive stakeholders — translating between technical constraints and business strategy to drive decisions that ship. I specialize in stepping into "messy spaces" where ancient tech debt, stakeholder misalignment, and legacy mindsets collide.

As a Tech Translator, I don't just design interfaces; I architect shared understanding of problems framed by user and business outcomes.
